What is now considered a conventional plumbing system may change in the not-too-distant future. As the world confronts shortages of fresh water and fossil fuels, alternative technologies will enter the mainstream. Possibilities include rainwater capture in every building, grey water toilets or waterless toilets, solar thermal water heating systems or solar thermal combined with energy-wise boiler systems, drainwater energy recapture piping and so on.
